This killer who saved my life

2024

43-year-old Emmanuel, a former legionnaire, is immersed in the twists and turns of his difficult application for naturalisation in France and recalls the extraordinary ordeal that led him there. 30 years after the events, this survivor of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda is looking for witnesses to this dramatic episode in his life and, above all, for one of the genocide who is currently on the run and who was his teacher. He does not want to denounce him, but wants to come to terms as an adult with this man who saved his life at the last minute, who sheltered and protected him for two months at the height of the horror and at the risk of his own life. He wants to understand the reasons for this act, which is at odds with his crimes, and compare their mutual narratives about this tragedy and its impact on their fates. The illumination of a complex and indissoluble relationship between a victim and an executioner who became his Samaritan.
